Cassandra Willis sighed as she plopped down on a dressing bench at the foot of her bed.
“My dirty little secrets are going to be told,” she said, wincing.
“No — it’s going to be like a treasure hunt,” came a chirpy voice from within Willis’ bedroom closet.
Behind the sliding mirrored doors of Willis’ closet lurked Ann Grace Wallace, mired in heaps of clothing, shoes and assorted organizing gadgets.
Wallace, who does appearance coaching and organizing through her Richmond business, Ann Grace & Co., was helping Willis, an administrator in the Richmond school system, reorganize her closet.
Willis, 37, was winner of the Richmond Times-Dispatch “Clean Out Your Closet” Facebook contest in September. In addition to the free consultation by Wallace, who charges $65 per hour for a minimum two-hour intervention, Willis won a $100 gift card from The Clothes Rack.
“I watched ‘Hoarders’ to get ready for this,” said Willis, who, with her husband, Larry, has a 3-year-old daughter, Layla, and a 10-month-old son, Caleb.
On a warm fall morning, Wallace was in the second-floor master bedroom of Willis’ Church Hill home with the windows — and her spirits — raised high.
On Willis’ bed were four brightly colored plastic tubs marked “throw away,” “give away (sell or consign),” “put away” and “next season.”
Wallace began with a sizable collection of shoes.
“OK, Cinderella, here’s something for the throwaway bin — a pair of wicked-witch pointy boots,” Wallace said. “They had a place in time.”
A pair of camel-colored mules that were seldom worn met the same fate.
The “keep” shoes were placed in a new hanging canvas shoe tree, with the ones Willis wears least stashed in the bottom cubicles.
Once the floor was clean, Wallace started on the shelf. She pulled a mound of clutter, including gifts Willis had from her days as hospitality chairwoman of Delta Sigma Theta sorority’s local alumni chapter.
“When you get all of this stuff in your living space,” said Wallace, balancing a seldom-used foot bath over her head, “it just depresses you.”
With the closet shelf and floor empty only 45 minutes into the makeover, Wallace began sorting through clothes. Maternity clothes were hustled off to the give-or-sell bin.
Out came a denim wrap skirt. “I made that skirt at Marymount” school, Willis said, clutching it for the “keep” pile. “It’s very, very sentimental.”
Wallace pulled out spring and summer clothes and put them in the off-season box. She stripped the closet of empty hangers. She began organizing the remaining fall and winter clothes by color. More current jeans were saved. “Jeans you can wear for four seasons,We can provide high quality designer Replica shoes and fake designer shoes for a fraction fo the price you would pay for the original! so you always get good value out of your jeans,” Wallace said.
“Each season lasts 90 days. If you wear something once or twice a week, that’s good value — or ‘cost-per-wear’ in accountant speak. Black shoes and black pants have the highest utility of anything in your closet.”
She sorted pants by their use — work or casual. “Put all of your work pants on one hanger set,” Wallace said. “Jeans and casual pants can go on another.”
In 80 minutes, the closet was on its way to being finished. It was time for Wallace to begin working her fashion magic.
She pulled out a pair of pants here, a jacket there and asked Willis to look in drawers for a particular color shirt, piece of jewelry or other complementary accessory. She cobbled together several outfits that Willis said she never would have visualized.cheapest air max 90 uk online store, All authentic exclusive nike air max 90 trainers for sale. The closet makeover provided a physical and emotional cleansing, Willis said, and it could have other benefits. “Since it won’t take me as long to get dressed in the morning, I’ll have more time to go to the gym.”
A week after the makeover, Willis e-mailed Wallace that she was getting ready 45 minutes faster in the morning — and her “new” looks were having a desired effect.Buy cheap new nike air yeezy shoes on cnbrandshop.
